The amount of time an oxygen tank will last depends on several factors, including the size and capacity of the tank, the patient’s prescribed oxygen flow rate, and the type of regulator or oxygen-conserving device being used. Higher flow rates will use oxygen more quickly, while a conserver may help extend the life of the tank by delivering oxygen only when the patient inhales.
